Through our travels it became clear that humanity is in trouble. Overpopulation, globalisation, exploitation of people and natural resources, political strife and feudal unrest are virtually universal pressures on cultures worldwide. Meanwhile in the West, as technology continued to deliver ever-more miraculous gadgets and widgets, people seem to become less happy and less well. Neither the spiritual traditions nor psychology had satisfactory explanations of what is going on.
Then, in 1998, while living in Colorado, we discovered each other and, at about the same time, Terry discovered Integral. Curiously he had been living in Boulder Colorado for six years which happened to be the home of Ken Wilber. It is ironic that he discovered Wilber's work when buying a book to read on the plane trip that marked the end of his time in Boulder.
For the 10 years prior, Terry and his business partners had been building an international software business which they sold to a US concern in 1999. Terry quit his job as Vice President of Worldwide Customer Service to fulfil a life-long dream. After a 10-day learn-to-sail course, he purchased an 11 metre yacht and then spent 18 months living and sailing single-handed around the Caribbean while (unsuccessfully) trying to write a novel. When not writing, he read the majority of his time reading Ken Wilber's voluminous works. Those 18 months proved to be an invaluable opportunity for Terry to immerse himself in hermit-like conditions into a deep study of integral theory.
After returning to Australia in 2001, we both trained as Expressive Therapists as a method of accessing unconscious beliefs and processing them into conscious awareness. Then we discovered Maleny and the Worldview Centre property. The combination of all these elements comes together in a Worldview Encounter workshop.
We have both been blessed with amazing opportunities in life, and we both now find our greatest fulfilment in doing what we can to encourage the evolution of consciousness in service of all future generations of humanity who are depending upon us to not trash the planet they will inherit.
